HM Treasury Autumn Budget Representation

In our representation to the Treasury, we present our recommendations for the upcoming Autumn Budget. We argue that this budget presents an important opportunity for the new Government to utilise sustainable transport as a driver of economic growth, emissions reduction, and improved quality of life.

Our key proposals include: scrapping unaffordable and outdated road schemes, “fixing the spine” of the high-speed rail network, extending the £2 bus fare cap, protecting commitments to increase City Regional Sustainable Transport Settlements, restoring an inflation-based fuel duty escalator, and increasing air passenger duty on journeys that can be reasonably made by rail.

We have prioritised policies that will increase both the demand and supply of sustainable transport, helping the UK reduce its carbon emissions and deliver more liveable places. We hope these proposals receive careful consideration ahead of the upcoming Autumn Budget statement.
