Opportunity summary

Enroute is looking to develop and publish thoughtful, insightful and original research and analysis into transport issues. We are looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable people with subject-matter expertise, exciting ideas and a commitment to sustainability to join us on a flexible basis and contribute to our work.

If you have an idea or research topic you would like to develop into a research piece, we will offer you support, feedback and a platform to publish and promote your work. You will join our research team on a flexible basis, for an initial 2-4 months whilst you develop and write your research. You will also learn about our process and ongoing work, share your ideas and receive support and feedback from the wider team. We are a young, energetic and supportive team which encourages new ideas and will bounce ideas off you too. You should expect to work for approximately five hours per week for the duration of your placement, though this is highly flexible. If you need time off for any reason, you just need to let us know.

Once you have finished your first piece, should you wish to, you will have the option of joining the team on a long-term basis.

Please note this role is voluntary and remote. Experience in the transport industry is desirable, but not essential. Your background in your chosen subject does not need to include work experience, and could include volunteering, previous research or strong general interest. We welcome those with a wider interest in transport and an appreciation of how your chosen subject fits into the wider picture.

Opportunity specifics

This role is reasonably flexible in terms of time commitment, and have therefore set it at our default 2-5 hours per week. However, we do expect a reasonable amount of time to be dedicated to your research piece. This can be discussed with your line manager.

This role does not come with additional resource or line management responsibility over other volunteers. However, you may be asked to line manage Transport Analysts yourself in the future.

As this is a transport analyst vacancy within Enroute, we'd anticipate a volunteer to stay with us until their research piece is completed, and potentially longer to continue their role with us. However, if life circumstances change or you change your mind about the role, we are flexible and can change your responsibilities or you can depart Enroute.

There are no restrictions in this role on taking time off or marking your calendar as out of office at any time. Just let your line manager know that you will be unavailable, and create an out-of-office autoreply on your Enroute inbox.

Enroute holds All Hands Team Calls for 30 minutes every Wednesday at 19:30. We ask that you make an effort to attend these meetings, but let us know if you are unable to. There are no other required regular meetings or events associated with this role.

There are no regular financial benefits associated with this position. However, you can expense claim reasonable cost made exclusively for Enroute's benefit, such as to attend meetings and events.
