Opportunity summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Company Secretary and Finance Manager to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring the financial stability of Enroute by overseeing our relationship with the Board of Directors, managing budgets and providing strategic financial and accounting guidance. The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills and the ability to communicate complex financial information in a clear and accessible way.

The Company Secretary and Finance Manager will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing annual accounts, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices. This includes managing budgets, monitoring cash flow, and working closely with the Board of Directors to arrange communications and approvals. You will also oversee fundraising efforts and assist in securing grants and sponsorships to sustain and grow Enroute’s impact.

A key aspect of this role involves acting as the primary liaison between the Board and the operational team. You will prepare and present operational (as well as finance) updates at board meetings, offering analysis and recommendations. Additionally, you will coordinate board governance matters, including meeting agendas, minutes, and compliance with legal and financial obligations.

The role also includes working closely with external partners such as funders, grant providers, and financial institutions to strengthen Enroute’s financial sustainability. You will support the development of financial policies and procedures, ensuring best practices are followed across the organisation.

Opportunity specifics

This role is reasonably flexible in terms of time commitment, and have therefore set it at our default 2-5 hours per week. Time commitment will vary depending on workload throughout the year. For example, submission of annual accounts and the new financial year may result in a higher workload.

This role does not come with additional resource or line management responsibility over other volunteers. However, if you find that you and the organisation may benefit from an additional volunteer working closely with you or alongside you, this can be discussed.

As this is a one-off vacancy for a default position within Enroute, we'd anticipate a volunteer to stay with us for at least six months. However, if life circumstances change or you change your mind about the role, we are flexible and can change your responsibilities or you can depart Enroute.

We would prefer if you did not take time off during the period immediately before Enroute's Company Accounts are due, every year. Aside from this, there are no restrictions in this role on taking time off or marking your calendar as out of office at any time. Just let your line manager know that you will be unavailable, and create an out-of-office autoreply on your Enroute inbox.

Enroute holds All Hands Team Calls for 30 minutes every Wednesday at 19:30. We ask that you make an effort to attend these meetings, but let us know if you are unable to. In addition, Enroute holds quarterly Board meetings which you may be invited to as part of your role. These tend to take place in the evenings on a weekday, every three months, and are either virtual or hybrid affairs.

There are no regular financial benefits associated with this position. However, you can expense claim reasonable cost made exclusively for Enroute's benefit, such as to attend meetings and events.
