East West Rail Non-Statutory Consultation

Enroute recently participated in the East West Rail non-statutory consultation, providing detailed feedback on various proposed infrastructure improvements and implementations.

We support the consolidation of stations on the Marston Vale Line to improve efficiency and local economy, suggesting the creation of better-served stations in higher population areas with park and ride facilities for closed stations. We expressed no preference for the location of Ridgmont and Stewartby stations but strongly supported the redevelopment and expansion of Bedford station, as well as other proposals in the Bedford area.

We also endorsed measures in other sections of the route, such as Clapham Green to Colesden and Roxton to east of St Neots, including the new station at Tempsford and the feasibility of a new station at Wintringham. We supported the new station at Cambourne in the Croxton to Toft area and additional footbridges to encourage active travel in Comberton to Shelford. In Cambridge, we backed proposals for a new station east of Cambridge to enhance connectivity. Furthermore, we advocated for fully electrifying East West Rail and outlined their vision for minimum service frequencies to ensure robust connectivity for settlements of various sizes.
