Integrated National Transport Strategy Call for Ideas

Consultation Response

In our response to the Department for Transport, we present our recommendations for the upcoming Integrated National Transport Strategy. We argue that this strategy is a critical opportunity for the Government to use sustainable transport as a driver of economic growth, emissions reduction, and improved quality of life.

Our response highlights key themes, including:

  • Joining Up the Transport Network: Advocating for better integration between public transport modes, a national contactless ticketing system, and improved multi-modal passenger information.
  • Making Use of Data: Proposing a common digital platform for journey planning, disruption updates, and ticketing across all transport modes and regions.
  • Harnessing Technology Responsibly: Calling for pragmatic use of proven transport technologies rather than waiting for unproven future solutions.
  • Joined-up Decision-Making: Suggesting a shift towards a ‘vision-led’ strategy, where transport and land use planning are better aligned, and decision-making is more transparent and participatory.

Through this response, we urge the Government to prioritise public transport and active travel, reduce car dependency, and create a better transport system for everyone.
