In our response to the Department for Transport, we present our recommendations for the upcoming Integrated National Transport Strategy. We argue that this strategy is a critical opportunity for the Government to use sustainable transport as a driver of economic growth, emissions reduction, and improved quality of life.
Our response highlights key themes, including:
- Joining Up the Transport Network: Advocating for better integration between public transport modes, a national contactless ticketing system, and improved multi-modal passenger information.
- Making Use of Data: Proposing a common digital platform for journey planning, disruption updates, and ticketing across all transport modes and regions.
- Harnessing Technology Responsibly: Calling for pragmatic use of proven transport technologies rather than waiting for unproven future solutions.
- Joined-up Decision-Making: Suggesting a shift towards a ‘vision-led’ strategy, where transport and land use planning are better aligned, and decision-making is more transparent and participatory.
Through this response, we urge the Government to prioritise public transport and active travel, reduce car dependency, and create a better transport system for everyone.
