Enroute has responded positively to the Norfolk Rail Prospectus 2024 Consultation, expressing strong agreement with most of the priorities outlined.
The organization supports the expansion of East West Rail services beyond Cambridge and Oxford, including to Norwich and destinations west of Oxford. Enroute also backs the proposals for new stations and lines across the UK, as well as the long-term goal to make all Norfolk stations fully accessible.
However, the group has reservations about the ‘Norwich in 90’ initiative being a key priority, citing concerns about potential disruptions to local services and major timetable changes on the Great Eastern Main Line.
The consultation response demonstrates Enroute’s broad support for the priorities set for various rail lines in Norfolk, including those connecting Norwich to London Liverpool Street, King’s Lynn to London King’s Cross, and routes to Cambridge, Stansted, Nottingham, and Liverpool Lime Street. The organization also strongly agrees with the priorities for local lines such as the Bittern and Wherry lines, as well as the analysis of Community Rail, Private Lines, and potential new or reopened lines. Enroute commends the ambition contained in the Rail Prospectus and suggests that similar approaches could be valuable for other counties’ rail networks.
